 PowerPoint 2003 Introduction (1 day)

Overview and objectives

This course is designed to help you to obtain the basic skills required to create and deliver a slide show to accompany a presentation.  You will learn to use templates, layouts, and formatting tools to create slides incorporating text and graphics.

What is PowerPoint?

· Understand the functions of a presentation graphics application
· Understand some principles of presentation design
· Recognise the different elements of the PowerPoint window
· Select different views
· Change the zoom setting

 

Creating a Presentation

· Create a new presentation
· Create a specific type of slide
· Enter text onto a slide
· Delete a slide

 

Entering and Editing Text

· Move the insertion point
· Select text
· Insert new text
· Type over existing text
· Delete text
· Use the Undo, Redo, and Repeat commands
· Insert the date and time
· Insert symbols and special characters
· Create and modify speaker notes

 

Working with Objects

· Select, position, and delete an object
· Resize an object

Moving and Copying Data

· Cut, Copy, and Paste with the Windows Clipboard using the menu, toolbars, and keyboard
· Move and copy text from one presentation to another
· Use the Paste Options smart tag to change the format of pasted text
· Use drag-and-drop to move and copy text
· Use Paste Special to choose different formats for data
· Change the order of slides/Move and copy slides between files

Inserting Pictures and Clip Art

· Understand Object Linking and Embedding
· Insert a Clip Art object
· Insert a picture from a file • Insert a Print Screen graphic

Formatting Tools

· Understand the proper use of fonts and formatting for a slide show

Printing Slides and Handouts

· Select an output format for a presentation
· Preview the presentation in Print Preview
· Preview a presentation in black and white and greyscale
· Print slides in a variety of formats
· Add and print speaker notes
· Print audience handouts

 

Editing Text in Outline View

· Enter and edit text in Outline view
· Promote and demote text
· Modify slide sequence in Outline view
· Import text from Microsoft Word

 

Proofing Tools

· Check spelling

Using Templates and Masters

· Create a presentation using a content template
· Create a presentation using the AutoContent Wizard

PowerPoint 2003 Intermediate (1 day)

 

Overview and objectives

This course is designed will help students to obtain the skills required to create customized presentations.  Students will learn to add various types of different object to slides, such as charts, tables, and diagrams.  In addition, students will learn to customise formatting using master slides and colour scheme.  Students will also be able to package and deliver a presentation in different formats and create interactive presentations using action settings and hyperlinks.

 

Course prerequisites

Ideally, you will have completed the course "Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Introduction". You should be able to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create, edit, format, and deliver a basic presentation and use design templates

Using Master Slides

· Modify the Slide, Title, Notes, and Handouts Masters
· Work with multiple masters
· Insert headers and footers and slide numbering
· Create and modify a presentation template
 

Colour Schemes

· Apply a colour scheme to selected slides
· Customise a colour scheme
 

Background Effects

· Apply different slide background colours
· Apply texture, pattern, and picture fill backgrounds

 

Margins, Indents, and Tabs

· Change margin settings in a text box
· Change the position of indents
· Set the position of tab stops

 

Arranging Objects

· Arrange and transform objects
· Set options for the drawing grid
· Group and ungroup shapes

 

Creating Simple Drawings

· Insert a picture or drawing canvas
· Use the Drawing toolbar to create basic shapes and lines
· Draw and modify AutoShapes
· Add text to a shape

 

Inserting a Chart

· Insert a new graph using Microsoft Graph
· Reposition, resize, and delete a graph object
· Modify an embedded graph object
· Change data using the datasheet
· Change the chart type

 

Creating a Diagram

· Create a diagram or organisation chart
· Modify the layout of a diagram or organisation chart
· Format a diagram or organisation chart

Using Tables on Slides

Importing and Exporting Data
